Some of my friends might know that when I go to the cinema, I stay until the very end, watching all the End Credits before leaving.
This habit developed during my days in filmmaking, where I learned to appreciate the extensive efforts of the crew behind every film. Most viewers only see the actors in front of the camera – how good-looking they are, how well they fight, or how skilled their acting is. But in reality, a great film owes its success to numerous people both on and off-screen, including marketers, distributors, and many others. I make it a point to stay and acknowledge all these names and company logos that I may not know before leaving the cinema.
However, I've noticed that many viewers seem in a rush as soon as the End Credits begin. It's often just my wife and me left watching until the end, while others have already left. This scenario makes me feel that if audiences don't respect the film enough to stay, how can they demand better movies?
I'm sharing this not to impose my habits on others – I have no right to do that – but to raise awareness. Having lived in Australia for several years now, I've noticed that local cinemas occasionally screen Hong Kong films, attracting Hong Kongers as well.
Once, I can't recall which Hong Kong film it was, but as soon as the End Credits started rolling, I stayed as usual. However, many Hong Kongers hastily left, whether they were in a rush or simply impatient, as if someone were chasing them out as soon as the End Credits began. I'm used to staying with my wife until the end, but on that occasion, the cinema actually turned off the screen before the End Credits finished, which left me quite disappointed. If audiences don't respect the film industry, it's one thing, but for the cinema itself not to respect it is another matter entirely!
I'll continue to stay until the very last second of the End Credits, respecting every person's contribution to the film. If you love movies and respect everyone involved in filmmaking, consider staying a bit longer, reading the names and recognizing those who work behind the scenes. #movie #cinema #theatre #audience #endcredits #credits #actor #director #producer
